Skills employers look for

Seven core skills. Plus the ones your next step needs.

Every track starts with the same seven core soft skills, practiced in real situations: group chats, choose-your-path stories, shifts, interviews and workplace scenarios. Earn a badge for each one.

💬 Communication

Listening well, speaking and writing clearly, reading body language, and sharing ideas respectfully.

🤝 Teamwork & Collaboration

Sharing goals, dividing work fairly, and working well with people who are different from you.

🔄 Adaptability & Flexibility

Adjusting to changed plans, new people, and new tools without losing focus.

🧩 Critical Thinking & Problem-Solving

Analyzing situations, breaking down challenges, and finding creative solutions when things go wrong.

💙 Emotional Intelligence & Empathy

Recognizing your own stress, managing reactions, and understanding how others feel.

📅 Time Management & Organization

Balancing work, commitments and deadlines independently.

🕊️ Conflict Resolution

Mediating disagreements, negotiating compromises, and finding common ground.

AI at work

Show you can use AI responsibly.

Four AI-at-work skills, badged the same way: how you task a tool, check what it produces, protect data, and disclose its use.

Prompting & Tasking

Turning a real work request into instructions a tool can act on, with the context and constraints the job requires.

AI Output Verification

Checking output against the source, the standard, or the physical work before anyone relies on it.

Data & Privacy Judgment

Knowing what may be entered into a tool, what may not, and which rules govern the record.

AI Disclosure & Fair Use

Telling people when AI was involved, crediting sources, and noticing unequal treatment.

How it works

Take an assessment. Get placed. Earn the badge.

  1. Sign in with LER.me® and choose your track.
  2. Take a scenario-based assessment. Most take about 10 minutes, some around half an hour. Answers save as you go, and you can set the scenarios in your career field.
  3. Get placed on four levels, set for your track.
  4. Earn a verifiable badge, issued by LER.me® as an Open Badges 3.0 credential to your wallet. Once you've earned it, there's no need to take it again.

The four levels

Emerging

Just beginning to learn or acquire the skill.

Developing

Moving in a positive direction. Still learning, with room to grow around the skill.

Proficient

Has functional knowledge of the skill and can apply it properly in specific on-the-job settings.

Advanced

Applies the skill naturally, without having to think about it, including under stressful or challenging circumstances.

One scale, five tracks

A level means "for your track": a proficient middle-school communicator and a proficient career changer have both done well, but not the same thing. So every track's four levels sit on one shared, seven-band Skill Scale, and the tracks overlap.

Read down a column to see which results are equivalent. Band 4, for example, is Middle School Advanced, High School Proficient, Career Starter Developing, and Emerging for Transitioning Military and Career Changers.

Built on real competency data

Every question is written from a real occupational competency statement (NSX, built on O*NET). Each statement carries a mastery level, described in the Pathsmith™ Durable Skills Framework's own words, and the O*NET Job Zone of the occupation it describes. Each track draws its questions from a different Job Zone, so a badge never claims more than its questions measured. Middle school core soft skills align to the MCPSS Career Preparedness list.
